2018 Ram 1500 Review

Few trucks are more versatile than the Ram 1500. It comes in a variety of configurations and offers enough options to ensure that it’s best suited to its driver’s needs.

Drivers in Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe can learn more about the wide array of features and options of this impressive truck by reading our 2018 Ram 1500 review. Read more here and learn where you can go to take a test drive.

Ram 1500 Performance

The Ram 1500 is available with three different engine configurations. The base model’s engine is a 3.6L V-6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It’s also available with a 5.7L V-8 that produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500 is the only full-size pickup in its class to offer a diesel engine option with a turbo-diesel 3.0L V-6 that produces 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

All engines pair with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Either all-wheel or rear-wheel drive are available depending on the cab and bed configurations.

As far as the Ram 1500 towing capacity, the V-8 offers the most capability, towing a maximum of 10,700 when properly equipped. The EcoDiesel’s towing capacity is between 7,500 and 9,210 pounds, and with the right configuration, the V-6 is capable of 7,610 pounds.

Payload ratings for the lineup are between 1,050 and 1,930 pounds, but the V-6 with the regular cab and long box has the highest payload. The EcoDiesel with a crew cab and 6.4-foot bed has the lowest payload in the lineup.

The Ram 1500 has always been one of the most comfortable pickup rides on the market, but its class-exclusive, advanced air suspension delivers an even better ride quality. Otherwise, the pickup is sturdy through corners and reflects very little body motion. Both steering and brakes are comfortable and effective.

Ram 1500 Technology

The Ram is outfitted with the Uconnect® infotainment system, which is one of the most intuitive and responsive systems available. The 2018 model year brought an 8.4-inch touchscreen with better resolution and zoom functions, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot, HD Radio™, and smartphone integration with both Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™.

Standard features include an AUX input, voice commands, and a USB port, as well as Bluetooth® connectivity, with real-time weather, and real-time traffic options.

New for 2018

The 2018 model year brought some new additions to the lineup, such as the Limited Tungsten Edition, which has a sport hood, chrome-accented grille, badging, blackout headlights, body-color bumpers, mirrors, and door handles, and satin wheels.

The Harvest Edition is to commemorate farms, and is available in farm-equipment colors, like Case IH Red and New Holland Blue. It also comes with chrome accents, a mesh grille, all-terrain tires, and a slightly-higher ride height. Some other farm accents complete the Harvest Edition’s looks.
